A Magical Extended Family Session in Roma Street Parkland

Family reunion is such a special memory that deserves to be captured.

Whether you are a local or you’re taking a family vacation up Brisbane and you’d like to have some extended family photos taken, I want to be your photographer to help you document this memory.

I had the honour to photograph the beautiful connection of an extended family enjoying a cozy spring day together in the Roma Street Parkland in Brisbane.

Here I want to share with you five tips for a successful extended family portrait session at Roma Street Parkland:

5 tips for a successful extended family session

1. Your mindset. Walk into a family photo session feeling relaxed makes all the difference. When you are pre-occupied with the worries of how the session will go, stress will inevitably follow. Think of this as a family day out, walking in a park. What’s there to stress about, really?
   
2. Outfit selection. Taking the time to coordinate everyone’s outfit will make a huge difference. Coordinate, don’t match. Ladies, say yes to the dress! Dresses and skirts look most stunning because they really flatter every female body, especially on camera — which is probably why the red carpet is always full of so many dresses and not very many pantsuits! Long, full-length, flowy dresses and skirts look amazing on camera because they bring extra movement to the photos. Especially when juxtaposed with nature. Consider softer fabrics like chiffon or tulle which allow for beautiful movement in the images. Cute, shorter midi or cocktail-length dresses also photograph beautifully! 3. Have makeup and hair professionally done. Photo sessions make great opportunities to dress up, have fun and look beautiful! Our makeup artist Amy is here to pamper you in your own home in the morning of our session. This mama looked absolutely gorgeous, felt incredibly confident in front of the camera because of the hair and makeup makeover she had!
   
4. Be prepared to walk and move about. Roma Street Parklands is huge. Spectacle Gardens is located at the centre of the parkland, and we will be moving about to different spots for different flower backdrops. So be prepared to walk through water parks, grassland etc.
   
5. Plan ahead. Bring change of clothes for kiddos, snacks and water.
