A Fun Family Session in Brisbane Lavender Field

I love when a client chooses to have their family photos in a flower field. Flowers and light are my signature photography elements that differentiate my work from the rest of the photographers here in Brisbane. There isn’t many great spots for flowers in Brisbane to be honest, (Adelaide clients – there’s an abundance for you in SA!) but I have a list for you. This Brisbane Lavender Field is one of the most popular spots clients pick for family photos. I love this location for its beautiful light both in the lavender field and up the hills.

The one and only Brisbane Lavender Field

I met up with Belinda’s family in a cozy September afternoon.  The sun was shining and we set out to explore the lavenders in Mount Cotton.

“The flowers smell,” said Louis- whether that’s a good or bad thing didn’t matter. Two gorgeous girls and two handsome boys took the lavender field as their playground. With matching outfits and energy, they skipped, danced and explored – completely in their element – every moment filled with the excitement of something new to discover and a sense of adventure as you left no rock unturned and took in the sights, sounds and smells of a world new and full of wonder.

What makes this lavender farm suitable for family photos?

Families with smaller children love this location because we are constantly moving around, running up and down the field, and smelling the flowers along the way in this Brisbane lavender field!

There is ample parking, and a toilet on site. Although this family was extremely organised and brought nappies and spare clothes to change halfway.

Belinda was more than a mother. She was Louis and Lucy’s best friend, teacher and the most important person in their lives. Kids long for support to grow just like a grape plant in the vines of Sirromet, and she was that support.  She would patiently hear all the kids’ nonsense and tolerate all their tantrums. Though not a singer, her songs are the most mellifluous, bringing big smiles across their faces. Though not a teacher by trade, she instilled in her kids to stay composed & positive even during periods of chaos, taught them good manners as well as a kind of charm that can only be learned through example.  They are so blessed to have a loving and gentle mother and father who they could count on to dry their tears or smother them with hugs and kisses on any given day.

Bel and Harry are such an example of two lovebirds building a beautiful life together, and seeing the way you interacted with your sweet kiddos melted my heart. And that’s my favourite part of photographing families: getting to witness and document the bond between people who love and care for each other. Creating art that captures the intangible yet beautiful love is a high I will be chasing for the rest of my life.

Harry, Belinda and kiddos, I had so much fun working with you! Thank you for the smiles and laughs and being so present and happy throughout the photoshoot with me. My favourite part of this whimsical glimpse into their lives was getting to capture the authentic, genuine interactions between them all and tell their unique story.
