Pre-photoshoot and wedding skin care

Prepping your skin pre-photoshoot is just as important as makeup application. It’s like photography – the raw material straight out of camera needs to be good; without a good solid raw photo no amount of editing can fix it. Firstly, managing your expectations is important. It is completely valid to want to feel perfectly beautiful and confident on your big day, but you skin will always have texture and pores. Accepting that, first and foremost, will make creating a realistic skin-care plan a whole lot easier.

  • Hydrate you skin – Drink LOTS of water. Way more than usual. Drinking water gives the plumpness and natural glow to your skin. It delivers layers of hydration and soothing ingredients to your complexion. The ideal base for wedding makeup is calm, moisturised, firm skin.
  • increasing collagen or elastin – whilst you can take supplements if you want to, I find the best way is to have a balanced diet few weeks before.
  • This is speaking from personal experience, but managing blemishes, rough or congested skin can be done with retinoids, a vitamin-A derivative that increases cell turnover and makes way for fresh, new cells to reach the surface of your skin. I recommend giving The Ordinary a go. They are not ordinary at all – they are my holy grail for skin care. For such an affordable price, it’s life changing. They increases skin’s production of collagen too, which helps smooth out wrinkles and fine lines, making them an excellent option for drier and more mature skin types as well. However, they are not a magic bullet that acts overnight. It takes at least 1-2 months to see the results and during the first month you may experience flaking, dry skin and that’s a sign of cell turnover. So don’t be disappointed!
