If you are seeking help from a medical professional who is experienced in children’s health and don’t require specialist advice then GP is still your primary point of contact. Family doctors can assess the situation and make a referral for you to the hospital or private specialists – this is often quicker than you reaching out to the paediatrician yourself.
Private paediatricians initial consult fee is usually around $350-500 but it is covered by Medicare Rebate at time of writing. Please contact individual paediatrician office for advice.
